Mystery and Nature Tour
What could be more mysterious than a bog? Only an abandoned old manor. On this tour we will visit both the manor and the bog, as well as one of the largest and most beautiful waterfalls in Estonia.
The tour begins with a visit to Viru Bog, one of Estonia’s most fascinating natural landscapes, shrouded in mystery and unique beauty. We will hike the boardwalk trail to a watchtower for panoramic views. During the walk you will learn about the formation of bogs, their rare flora and fauna, myths and legends, and the role of bogs in climate change. The total length of the route is 2.8 km.
Next, we will step back in time at Kolga Manor, one of the largest and most historically important manor complexes in Estonia. Founded in the 13th century as the governing estate of a Cistercian monastery, it later belonged to the noble families of De la Gardie and von Stenbock. One day Kolga will be restored to its full glory and will have a completely different look. Now empty and dilapidated, the estate complex and its surroundings create an atmosphere of mystery and past. During an exclusive tour of Kolga's main building, you'll learn the history of the estate and hear ghost stories. Finally, we will visit Jagala Waterfall and enjoy scenic views of the cascading water.
Jagala waterfall is approximately 8 metres high and more than 50 metres wide. It is the widest natural waterfall in Estonia. You will be able to see the waterfall both from above and from below, by going down a specially equipped wooden staircase.
